Biscuit loves to come to The Reading Clinic as often as possible. He views himself as the greeter and as the receiver of tummy rubs.  Biscuit was adopted from the Weld County Humane Society in November of 2009 and is about seven years old. He reads books late at night when no one is looking.

  Deb Adams has been a clinician at The Reading Clinic, Inc. since 1996.  She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of Northern Colorado in 1976. She received a Masters of Arts degree from UNC in Special Education in 1978.  Deb has worked with elementary, middle and high school students in the public schools as a Resource teacher for the past 27 years.
  Lisa Englund attended Colorado State University and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology with an emphasis in Child Psychology. She continued her education at the University of Colorado at Denver, while teaching elementary language arts at St. Mary's Academy, and she received a Masters certification in Elementary Education.  She then received a Masters of Art degree from University of Northern Colorado in Educationally Handicapped. She taught learning disabled and emotionally disturbed students in the Jefferson County Schools from 1984-1992. Lisa has been a special education, Title I, general classroom, and Reading Recovery teacher for the Thompson R2-J School District since 1992. She is presently teaching Reading Recovery and is the first grade interventionist for Sarah Milner Elementary.
  Pat Fossen graduated from Moorhead State University in Minnesota with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1966. She obtained her Master’s degree in the spring of 1993 in Educational Leadership.  Pat continued taking coursework after receiving her Master’s degree, taking coursework which focused primarily on reading instruction, brain research and developmental learning. Pat has over thirty years of teaching experience in Minnesota, Vermont, New Hampshire and Colorado.
 

Cheryl Gillpatrick graduated from San Jose State University with a Bachelors degree in Mathematics with a minor in Home Economics. After getting her secondary teaching credential at SJSU, she taught junior high and high school math, home economics, and business courses. Cheryl moved to Loveland, colorado with her husband and son in 1995. Cheryl received the Edyth May Sliffe Award for Outstanding Mathematics Teaching at the Junior High Level in 2007. Cheryl has a varied background, and enjoys helping students of all ages, especially in math. She uses manipulative tasks and explains concepts in a manner that differentiates instruction for each learner. Her goal is to develop programs tailored to each child that foster long-term academic success by enhancing thinking and computational skills in math.

  Deb John graduated from Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa, with a Speech/Theatre/English major and earned her Masters from the University of Northern Colorado. Teaching a variety of language arts courses as well as history and geography, she was a faculty member at Bill Reed and Walt Clark Junior High Schools as well as Thompson Valley and Mt. View High Schools. The workshop model and student-centered learning strategies remain the foundation of Deb’s educational practice. Although she believes that subject content remains important, critical thinking, reading, speaking, and writing are the core of deep learning. An avid reader and film buff, she also loves to help students connect facts and ideas across the content areas.
 

Ellen Klug graduated from Idaho State University with a degree in Elementary Education.  She taught third grade for three years in Pocatello, Idaho.  After staying at home with her son and daughter while they were growing up, Ellen became a literacy teacher in Loveland, Colorado in 1989.  Ellen has specific training in Reading Recovery as well as in other specific methods for teaching reading and writing.  She has a love for working with students and watching them grow as learners.  Ellen also enjoys spending time with her four granddaughters, gardening, participating in church activities, and playing the cello with the Loveland Orchestra.

  Terri Peterson received her Bachelors and Masters of Science degrees in Special Education from Utah State University.  Additional coursework has focused on elementary education, instructional technology, gifted instruction, differentiated instruction, and standards based instruction.  She has expertise in working with students of all ages, from preschool to graduate school and has the ability to teach a wide range of subject areas. In addition to her teaching career in the school district, Terri has served as a consultant and facilitator, training teachers to use differentiated instruction and standards based teaching as a means for maximizing academic success.
  Nancy Townsend received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education in 1975 from the State University of New York at Geneseo with an emphasis in Special Education.  She received her Master’s degree in Reading at the same university in 1978.  Nancy has taught reading for more than 30 years, working with both the school-age population and with adults. Nancy is the owner and director of The Reading Clinic, Inc. which was founded in 1990.
  Kathy Walter graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education.  After a few years of teaching, she returned to UNC and earned her Masters of Art degree in Reading.  She has been an elementary classroom teacher as well as a Title I teacher for students in Kindergarten through Grade Three.   Her instruction is based on research-based techniques which utilize structured, systematic reading and writing activities.  Kathy’s goal is to foster a love for learning by providing a positive and encouraging learning environment.   Her passion is to empower students to discover their own strengths and to gain confidence as they become lifelong learners.
